Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique in Falls Church, VA
A breakthrough treatment for gum recession.
What Is Gingival Recession?
Gingival recession is the medical term for gum recession, when gums pull away from teeth or wear away. Teeth look longer, but gum recession can sometimes be a gradual process. Many people might not realize that their gums are receding until it is too late to reverse the process with better oral hygiene. Gum recession causes include gum disease, using a toothbrush that is too hard, using tobacco or the natural aging process.
Why Are Receding Gums an Issue?
Receding gums leave the teeth’s supporting bone and soft tissues exposed to harmful bacteria. Without treatment, teeth may become loose. In adults over 40, gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss.
Why Is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique a Preferred Treatment for Receding Gums?
Patients experience virtually no pain with Dr. John Chao’s patented technique and the recovery time is minimal. The patient can resume their normal actives in one to two days. Dr. Chao trained our doctor in this groundbreaking technique, which allows us to offer suture-free treatment for receding gums at our office in a single visit. Only Pinhole Academy® trained clinicians can offer the Pinhole Surgical Technique.
How Is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique Different from Conventional Gum Grafting?
Traditional autogenous grafting can take multiple visits to move soft tissue from the roof of a patient’s mouth and place it on the gums. With PST, there is no gum grafting at all, which will encourage reluctant patients, who have heard gum grafting is painful, to restore their gums and protect their roots.
How Does the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique Work?
Our doctor, using special instruments, moves down existing healthy gum tissue. The work is done through a pinhole in the gum; there’s no need for sutures. Instead of replacing lost gum tissue, the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique simply loosens existing tissue and slides it down.
What Are the Advantages of the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?
The main advantage for our patients is that they can have their receding gums fixed in one day with virtually no pain. There are people that would risk tooth loss rather than undergo a painful gum graft; this procedure is ideal for them.
